What time and on what days do you fly?

Our passengers choose the time they wish to fly! We dont offer scheduled flights at set times, we rather fly to suit our passengers itinerary. We normally start flight operations at 09h00 (weather depending) and finish at 19h30 in summer and 17h00 in winter. For effective aircraft seat filling the flight usually departs at around (latest) 14h30 in winter and 14h00 and/or 17h00 in summer. Although our office/shop is CLOSED ON WEEKENDS/PUBLIC HOLIDAYS - WE FLY 7 days a week.

Can I take photographs?

No problem, we encourage you! Any "point & shoot" camera or any DSLR camera with a lens betwwen 28mm and 70mm is recommended. If you plan to take photographs we recommend wearing darker colored clothing to reduce possible window reflections.

Will the pilot give us a commentary?

Bush Bird aircraft's are equipped with intercom and aviation headsets allowing you to communicate and listen to the pilots commentary instead of the engine sound. The pilots give an expert, up to date information about the history of the relicts and the dune formations, whilst also highlighting the country sides. Please keep in mind that the pilot has to fly and listen to the radio regarding other traffic - if you do have question not attended to whilst flying you are welcome to ask the pilots after the flight. You will also receive an information flyer with your flight ticket.

In the event of our own aircrafts experiencing mechanical difficulties and/or we are not able to provide our own aircraft we reserve the right to substitute the aircraft with an alternate aircraft or subcharter third party aircrafts. With sub chartering 3rd party aircraft we cannot guarantee headsets at all time.

What should I wear?

You should wear similar clothing as you would wear travelling by car - light and comfortable. We suggest also to take along a sweater or jacket for after the flight. Check with our ground crew if you are unsure of what to wear. Essential wear: sunglasses, sunprotection, a hat, plenty of memory card ('s) space ( or films) for your camera.

Will I get airsick?

This varies from person to person. A light meal for breakfast or lunch prior to your flight is recommended. Not eating in an attempt to avoid motion sickness can be detrimental. Your pilot will be in constant communication during the flight. By monitoring your progress the flight will be adapted to ensure you will be comfortable at all times. All aircrafts have sick bags available.

Check - In Time?

If you do have a guaranteed, paid booking please check in/meet & greet at the confirmed airfield 30 min before your scheduled departure time.
This allows time for briefing, ticketing and aircraft allocation.
If you do have a reservation or credit card secured booking please meet at our office in the centre of town +/- 50 min before departure to allow enough time for payment processing.
If you are part of a large group (10 or more) then you will need to check in 60 min prior to departure.

Why do I need to provide my personal weight? Why are weights so important?

Weights play an important role in small aircrafts. All scenic flights are subject to aircraft operating within weight and balance/performance limitations as specified in the aircraft flight manual and the Company Operations Manual. Every flightroute, every aircraft and combination thereof has a MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE TOTAL WEIGHT FOR PASSENGERS. Please note that all aircraft vary in their actual load capability due to avionics and accessories fitted. Passengers will need to inform us at the time of booking of all individual passengers weights (inclusive of clothing, camera). This is also confirmed on the day of flight as passengers sometimes are weighed prior to departure. For this reason you will need to provide accurate weights when booking. There's no need to be concerned as your weights are kept strictly confidential.

Please note: Giving an incorrect weight for a single passenger or a group at time of booking, could result in cancellation of the seat/s or flight on the day of the flight (with penalty) if it causes us opertional difficulties ( i.e. the actual weights will contribute to an excess greater than our aircraft maximum take off weight).

MAX COMBINED PASSENGER WEIGHT: +/- 400 kg

WEIGHT RESTRICTION APPLICABLE:

120 kg pp max passenger weight

1 single person weighing 100 kg or more PER aircraft ONLY.

2 passengers/couples travelling together with a combined weight of 200 kg might be seated in different aircrafts - subject to availabilty of flights/seats - or as alternative option private aircraft charter by arrangement.

BUSH BIRD CONFIRMATION WILL BE SUBJECT TO WEIGHTS.

All weight limitations are due to safety regulations applicable to air trasnport within Namibia.

Is it safe?

We are interested in safety as you are. Our philosophy is to minimise risk by making safety our primary focus and at the same time provide memorable experiences for our passengers. We are certified by the Namibian Civil Aviation (DCA) and have a 100% safety record. Our operations and aircrafts are subject to a higher level of safety and standard exceeding the regulatory requirements. We rather cancel a flight due to weather or weight issues. All passengers are given a thorough safety briefing prior to flight including operation of door, seatbelts, headsets, declaring dangerous goods on board and general awareness around the aircraft.

Am I insured?

All passengers are insured on the Sossusfly scenic flight when flying with BUSH BIRD CC.

Do you fly disabled passengers?

Please advise the level of assistance required for any disabled passenger and whether the passenger is in a wheelchair, so that we can accommodate their needs with ease. We can accommodate 1 disabled person per aircraft. Please note that collapsible wheelchhairs only can be carried.
